Helping You Get a Job - Tips for Writing a Law School Resume
Helping You Get a Job - Tips for Writing a Law School ResumeWriting a law school resume is something that many people seem to put off for as long as possible. It takes a tremendous amount of time and energy, time that they could be spending in the classrooms. Luckily, you don't have to put it off anymore.Let's look at a law school resume. You will see a line for all of your accomplishments. While many people put emphasis on achievements or how great of a student you are, you can also put other things in here such as how long you have been a lawyer. This gives employers a general idea of where you've been in the past. In addition, employers can get an idea of your personality. There are plenty of things that you can do to help you make this information easier to understand for the person who is reading it. To help with the resume itself, you can include as much information as you like. For example, you can list the different states you have lived in. However, you need to leave out any information that is not related to being a lawyer or the specific field that you are applying for.Another thing that you should consider when writing a law school resume is to highlight any awards that you have received. Attending law school is just one of the accolades that you will receive. Awards are a way to show employers that you are a student who has shown commitment and dedication. Of course, it is important to keep it from getting too mushy. Your employer probably won't be impressed if you listed every award you had won in high school, but they will be impressed if you mention the big ones. The last and most important fact that you need to include on your resume is your education. In most cases, you will have the option to include a chapter or two on your education. Make sure that you follow up by making sure that it is accredited. Just make sure that the school that you are talking about actually has accreditation so that your resume reflects your academic background.Last, it is also a good idea to write a personal note on your law school resume. It is also a good idea to have an appendix if you want to go into more detail about your experiences. There are many things that you can do to improve your law school resume. Don't put it off any longer, start writing now!

10 Life Hacks That Will Make You Richer
10 Life Hacks That Will Make You Richer Picking up new skills as an adult can be tricky, especially when your energy and free time is precious. But prowess in different areas is not all created equal. Investing in certain abilities can get you big rewards for relatively little effort. MONEY interviewed dozens of experts in different fields to find out which skills, tricks, and workarounds are most financially worthwhile. Here are 10 moves you can make without much preparation. 1. Master the meeting The average pay bump from a promotion is about 7%, though it can be even more once youâre a manager, according to Mercer. But how do you get one? âThe meeting room is where we exert leadership and develop credibility,â says corporate trainer Dana Brownlee of Professionalism Matters. Donât dominateâ"nudge the group toward concrete goals. If someone canât let go of a point, try saying, âGood idea! Iâm writing it down.â Youâve now freed a room of grateful co-workers to move on. 2. Lend a hand at work Research by Adam Grant at the Wharton School has shown that successful people do more favors at work, but donât be afraid to ask for tiny favors too. We may actually feel more warmly toward people after lending them a handâ"our brains figure we must have done so because we like that person. Itâs been called the Benjamin Franklin effect: The Founding Father recalled winning over a legislative rival after borrowing a book from him. âOur attitudes often follow our behavior instead of vice versa,â says David McRaney, who writes about such psychological quirks in his book You Are Now Less Dumb. 3. Learn a language Itâs easier than ever to dip a toe into languages with free tools like Duolingo, a site and app that make learning like a game. If you then want to ramp things up, real-world classes run about $300 for 20 hours of instruction. Invest your time and money wisely: The payoff is in less commonly studied languages. A Wharton/LECG Europe study found that speaking German translated into a higher wage premium than for second languages overall. Ambitious? Thereâs a big market for Mandarin. 4. Get techy Computer-science grads earn $700,000 over the average B.A. holder in a career, but those with English and psych degrees arenât out of luck: There are ways to use technology smarterâ"and get recognized for itâ"at all levels. For example, if thereâs any need to quantify your businessâs activity, being the office Excel guru makes you valuable. Two skills to focus on: building charts (great for presentations) and pivot tables (to summarize lots of data). The ExcelIsFun YouTube channel is loaded with lessons. Want to compete with true techies? Codecademy.com can get you started for free learning code for building websites. Expertise in Ruby on Railsâ"certification testing is $150â"snags an average salary of $110,000, says data crunched by qz.com. If all this sounds like too much work, at least Google better. Seriously. Say, for example, you need stats about a productâs market share: Use âORâ (in caps) to Google for different words that might capture the same thing (like âpercentâ and âproportionâ). And check the image search results: The data you need may be in a chart someone has posted. Go to Googleâs help center for more power tips. 5. Write better A clear, unfussy writing style will get your ideas heard at work. (HR pros ranked writing second, behind only computer aptitude, among skills applicants most often lacked.) Harvard professor Steven Pinker, author of the new book The Sense of Style, gave us these tips for better writing: Avoid fancy words you donât need or understand. âFulsomeâ (as in âfulsome praiseâ) does not mean full; it means insincere. If you use hoity-toity words to sound posh, you will look pompous and may say the opposite of what you mean. Cut unnecessary words. John Kerry once said, âThe President is desirous of trying to see how we can make our efforts in order to find a way to facilitate.â What he meant was, âThe President wants to help.â Much better. Revise. And better still, show it to someone. Whatâs clear to you may not be clear to someone else. 6. Learn social savvy If you run a business or work in marketing, social media like Twitter seem like a great way to get your message out. But remember that users have zero interest in following companies that clutter their feed with ads. Use social to establish your expertise or spark ideas; then when people are in the market for what you sell, theyâll remember you. Hannah Morgan, co-author of Social Networking for Business Success, explains that a good tweet is self-contained and has a discrete piece of information worth sharing. What works well is language like, âBaking cookies? Add eggs one at a time so you can mix in evenly. For more tips check out our Baking 101 guide.â Then add a link. A less effective tweet is something like, âWeâre having a sale on tins of our delicious chocolate chip cookies. $19.99 all day Fridayâ because it reads like an advertisement and is therefore is unlikely to be shared. 7. Take back your workday If you get paid a flat salary, turning a 10-hour day into nine more-productive hours is like giving yourself an 11% hourly raise. Try three key moves from former Fidelity president Bob Pozen, author of Extreme Productivity: First, handle each email just once. Reply, file, or trashâ"donât come back to it later. Second, hide that extra chair; youâll discourage chatty co-workers from lingering. Finally, you might want to consider timing your breaks, since research shows your brain loses focus on a task after about 90 minutes. 8. Sell yourself âTen years ago job seekers would write a full-page cover letter,â says executive résumé writer Wendy Enelow. A better approach now is an email designed to cut through the electronic clutter. Use the subject line to note your key selling points. Instead of âDirector of sales position,â write âDirector of Salesâ"10 Years of Exceeding Sales Quotasâ"MBA.â In the body of the email, spotlight a major accomplishment. Follow up with three big career wins in bullet points. 9. Learn to DIY Some jobs always require a professional but, with a little prep, tasks like painting a room or replacing your carâs air filters can be a piece of cakeâ"and save you a solid amount of money. A painting pro, for example, could easily charge $1,600 for a big job, vs. up to $400 in materials on your own. Rich OâNeil of Masterwork Painting Restoration in Woburn, Mass., explains that to get professional results you must dust surfaces and tape up edges and moldings you donât want painted. Painting should go in two types of strokes: First apply a thin layer for coverage. Then paint over it to even and smooth. You can replace your carâs air filters yourself every 12,000 miles on newer cars. Youâll save about $50 in labor costs, says Mike Forsythe of Haynes, an auto-repair guidebook publisher, and pay 25% less for the filter by getting it at a parts store. To change an engine filter, check the housing in the engine compartment; in most cars thereâs a cover you can unlatch with your fingers. Youâll typically find the cabin filter inside the car, behind the glove box. 10. Get organized Everyone hates paying a late fee just because of a forgotten reminder to pay a bill on time. And few tasks are as irritating as foraging for receipts from months and months ago. The key to never losing track of important papers is to keep just one bin and make sure to empty your pockets and purse into it every night. Then set a regular date on your calendar to empty the bin and organize the receipts. âIf you wait too long, you may not even remember your purchase,â says professional organizer Andrew Mellen. If you find it hard to even check your calendar on a routine basis, pair a daily check with your morning coffeeâ"or any other routine you already have.

What SMBs Need to Know About Googles Cloud Security Command Center
What SMBs Need to Know About Googles datenwolke Security Command Centercastleski/Shutterstock It may not happen every day but it happens way too often that we hear of massive security breaches that leave our personal data exposed to ansprechbar thieves and hackers whose business it is to extort money, steal identities, generate chaos and make peoples lives miserable.RedLock, a Google wolke Platform security partner (recently acquired by Palo Alto Networks), reported that in 2018 an average of 51 percent of organizations publicly exposed at least one wolke storage service. Data exposures caused by misconfigurations pose an equally serious risk to your business and your customers as targeted or deliberate external attacks.Keeping information secure is a major part of online operations for all businesses, whatever the extent of your cloud management and storage. That is the impetus behind Googles new Cloud Security Command Center (Cloud SCC), launched last year to combat data leaks that can wreak havoc on companies and their customers. Here is the lowdown on the new security system, which is currently in beta. What is it?Cloud SCC is a security database and monitoring platform that works with Google Cloud Platforms (GCP) data products and services. It lets users discover, analyze, view, and access their assets to protect data across Googles App Engine, Cloud Datastore, Cloud DNS, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Spanner, Cloud Storage, Compute Engine, Container Registry, Kubernetes Engine, and Virtual Private Cloud.Viewing all assets togetzu sich on a single dashboard makes it easier to identify modified, new or deleted assets. Googles anomaly detection technology flags botnets, cryptocurrency mining, anomalous reboots and suspicious network traffic. This comprehensive data system overview facilitates better asset control and gives teams an intuitive way to analyze and mitigate risk. How does it work?Cloud SCC creates a unified inventory of your GCP resources organization, projects, instances and applications with vulnerability and threat assessments from GCP, third-party partners, and other security detectors and sources. Cloud SCC helps you generate specific insights and views of threats and attacks to your assets. The platform helps systems administrators target and mitigate security issues by providing visibility into infrastructure, configuration, application and data risk. You can set alerts for security anomalies and scan for sensitive data to detect vulnerabilities, and review access rights. You can see which cloud storage buckets are publicly accessible, determine which virtual machines have public addresses, detect lax firewall rules and get alerted to coin mining. You can easily see if users outside of your designated domain or Google Cloud Platform organization have access to your resources. Cloud SCCs continuous discovery scans reveal asset history, helping organizations understand changes in their environ ment and act on unauthorized modifications. With the assets display, you can see new, deleted and total assets for a specified time period, generate notifications when changes occur, and trigger cloud functions from a Cloud SCC query. Why do you need it?Cloud SCC assists your admins in understanding the practical effects of their settings and get a line on the security status of your cloud applications and data, letting you make configuration changes before damaging incidents occur. Security breaches need not be deliberate or malicious operator error often comes into play, with unsafe exposures resulting from setup mistakes.Sometimes, private information gets misplaced or data was stored in a way that was easy to access without authentication controls, or a needed password change slipped through the cracks. Some misconfigurations originate from a bucket or system set for internal use but which was later changed for greater accessibility.Users gain perspective on their projects, reso urces, the location of sensitive data, firewall rules and which service accounts were added or removed.Does it integrate with other security systems?Cloud SCC is interoperable with Googles own Data Loss Prevention (DLP) API, Forseti and Cloud Security Scanner. You can also integrate third-party tools, such as Cavirin, Chef, CrowdStrike, Cloudflare, Dome9, RedLock/Palo Alto Networks, and Qualys, into the Cloud SCC to detect security and befolgung policy violations, vulnerabilities, and threats. A REST API lets you work with your current security systems and workflows. What kind of businesses benefit from it?This Google system is targeted to enterprise-oriented businesses of any size, especially those who store and control assets in the cloud. Google Cloud Platform users and companies that employ App Engine, Cloud Datastore, Cloud DNS, Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Spanner, Cloud Storage, Compute Engine, Container Registry, Kubernetes Engine, Virtual Private Cloud and other services al l benefit from Cloud SCCs unified approach into their assets. How can it help my business?Cloud SCC is designed to keep your assets safe and secure, protecting vital information for both your business and your customers. It helps your company ensure that appropriate access control policies are in place across your cloud resources and that you get notified when settings are misconfigured or change unexpectedly or without authorization. You can receive Cloud SCC alerts via Gmail, SMS and Jira with Pub/Sub notification integration. What does it cost?Theres no dienstgrad from the Google Cloud Platform for using the Cloud Security Command Center during the beta period however, you will pay more if you use the Cloud Security Scanner, as it can affect App Engine quota limits, bandwidth traffic charges and API calls to App Engine services. The Cloud DLP API detector is also priced according to usage. Jackie Dove Jackie Dove is an obsessive, insomniac freelance tech writer and editor in northern California. Zynga Where Women Thrive In Silicon Valley
Zynga Where Women Thrive In Silicon Valley Working in a male-dominated field isnt always the easiest career path for women, so you may feel skeptical about pursuing a job in certain industries. But weve been working with a company thats illustrating how women can thrive in Silicon Valley.Zynga -- yes, the one that feeds your Words With Friends obsession -- has shown us what it looks like when leaders in a traditionally male-dominated industry step up and prioritize attracting, hiring and retaining top female talent. Weve spoken to women who work there, and theyve shared with us not only what their jobs are like, but also how awesome their company culture is.Stephanie Hess, Zyngas VP of Communications who also leads Women at Zynga, an employee-led organization, tells us, At Zynga, we aspire to be a top destination for women in gaming and are dedicated to creating an environment where women of all backgrounds, disciplines and phases in their careers can bring their ingenuity, creativit y, innovation and their whole selves to work to create entertaining experiences for our players and be drivers of Zyngas overall success.Gina Reams, a Principal Game Designer at Zynga, says that the Women at Zynga group is a huge draw for her. Seeing the amount of investment that Zynga puts into Women at Zynga is what really motivates me about the company, she says. Everyone knows there are diversity issues in tech. Its something we read about in the news and company reports, hear accounts of from people we know, or have even seen and experienced firsthand.Hiring is one issue, but even once you land a job in tech, for many women and minorities thats not the end of the challenges theyre going to face, Reams continues. Seeing Zynga put so much effort into the Women at Zynga organization really demonstrates to me that the company recognizes these issues and cares, at a leadership level, about making a positive impact on the quality of life for its employees. Instead of ignoring or wors e, dismissing the topic, Zynga is standing up and saying, Lets make sure everyone feels welcome and supported here.We love that employees are not only encouraged to do their jobs well -- but theyre also encouraged to get on board with this overarching mission to support women in tech.Hess filled us in on some of the amazing things that Women at Zynga is doing to enrich its employees experience. The group has been around since 2011, and its goal is to create an environment that empowers women to succeed in their careers and communities. While its a women-led and focused group, Women at Zynga also emphasizes engaging and including men in its efforts.Members help facilitate adialog between Zyngas female and male employees about ways to grow and support the female workforce across the company. We encourage women and men across all of our internal disciplines to attend our events to gain insights and learn more about one another, Hess tells us.Women at Zynga isnotone of those organization s that merely exists and touts its goals without actually doing anything. The members do a whole lot Hess and some other dedicated female leaders develop enrichment programs around education and training, career development and community building. They also help provide professional coaching, skills development workshops, speaker series, social events and celebrations marking womens triumphs. For International Womens Day, for example, Women at Zynga held a variety of events. Members coordinated celebrations and BeBoldforChange conversations at their 10 offices across the country and they sponsored a photo session for women who wanted to refresh their head shots for professional and social media purposes. We were inspired to do the photo refresh because as a mom every picture I seem to have now is casual and has my daughters in it as well so I have to find ways to creatively crop my photos for profile pictures Hess explained. Many other women shared similar stories while others who a re new to the workforce typically dont have a professional photo in their camera rolls. This event was empowering for our women and booked up in less than 10 minutes.Women at Zynga also hosted a FearlessFemales Livestream for IWD that featured the companys VP of Games Nicole Opas and Lead Game Designer Anna Huerta. The women spoke about Building and Working in Inclusive Teams at the University of Southern Californias Games for All speaker series. This is parte of a close relationship Zynga has established withProfessor Tracy Fullertonand USCs Cinema School where many of the companys female game developers will be teaching courses and beratung female and minority undergrads.Women at Zynga has allowed me to exercise my leadership skills when I did not have an opportunity on my teams and gave me the confidence to transfer my skills inmy day-to-daywork, said Huerta. I am now constantly being recognized for that growth by my colleagues and mentors - the support and affirmation fuel me to keep moving forward. I always thought being a leader was out of reach. The hours, the sacrifices, and amount of energy required seemed to be impossible requirements.Women at Zynga has introduced meto women who are board members, founders, and in executive positions, she adds. Their stories havehelped mebreak my own personal ceiling and redefined what it means to be a strong woman todays industry.Aswe break through the glass ceiling, its important for budding leaders to know they arenot alone. Women at Zynga isbreaking the phobia of asking for help andis ensuringthere are others available to reach out a hand and bring our leadersup as they climbto the top.Hess says shes particularly proud to chair this group because shes had some amazing mentors of her own, and she wants to pay that forward. A core value in my career has been to champion and celebrate womens achievements and to open doors for others to succeed, she explains. Ive been incredibly fortunate to have supportive mentors, managers and colleagues who have looked out for me and have been a part of my path. Throughout my career I have had the chance to do rewarding work while also being able to drive conversations and actions around inclusion. She credits the groups success with the development of the Women at Zynga Advisory Board, which is made up of a cross functional group of longtime Zynga employees who represent game design, engineering, production, employee engagement and communications.I love the fact that we have a diverse board of directors for Women at Zynga, says Reams. We have women in different stages of their career, a variety of disciplines, of different ethnicities and backgrounds. Its wonderful to see such a diverse group of women advocating for their colleagues and that spirit of inclusivity ripples through everything the group does. Thats something that means a lot to me as a Filipino-American woman in this industry. The Board meets regularly and is hands-on in shaping and designing pro gram initiatives, planning events and representing Zynga as ambassadors across the professional disciplines theyrepresent. The Board is also active in mentoring girls in tech and women in our fields both inside and outside of the company. The Women at Zynga Board of Directors has some ambitious plans for programming and events this year, adds Reams. I think one of the biggest impacts were having is really making all women feel like theyre included, valued, and supported in their career.Hess adds that As a communications professional and mother to two young, strong daughters, the biggest thing I can do is to bring others up with me and help them tell their stories, says Hess. My involvement with Women at Zynga enables me to do just that and its an incredibly fulfilling part of my life at ZyngaWant to join this awesome community of women?
